Gawler Line Electrification
Construction and urban renewal
- Create local construction jobs through the State and Local Government Capital Expenditure and Procurement project
- Increase public transport patronage due to greater safety, efficiency and frequency.
Early works on the electrification of the Gawler rail line have been undertaken and the completion of the project will see a non-stop electrified line between the Adelaide CBD and Gawler interchange. This will create improved transport outcomes for residents in the region and significant employment opportunities for local people during its construction.
The project includes upgrading the track, building new stations at Munno Para and Elizabeth, upgrading the Gawler and Elizabeth South stations, building a new car park at Smithfield station, and electrifying the line to run cleaner more efficient trains.
This project will provide safe and modern access for regional residents working elsewhere and incoming workers.
Work on the Gawler Line electrification will recommence in 2017-18.
